Imphal, December 11:
Thounaojam Chaoba, MP, Lok Sabha has fervently appealed to the Centre to bail the State out of the current financial morass by forwarding economic packages to Manipur as done in the case of other States.
Chaoba pointed out that without Central aid Manipur will be in no position to overcome the numerous deficits which has accumulated over the years and added that plant allocation of Rs 375.21 crore cannot undertake any development activities.
Taking part in the discussion on the budget of Manipur in Lok Sabha yesterday, Chaoba said plan allocation of Rs 375.21 crore, Rs 69.90 crore for the centrally sponsored schemes and Rs 1998.46 crore for non-plan outlay is not just enough to bridge the gap between revenue receipt and expenditure.
The MP also took pains to point out that the deficit at the moment is Rs 498.67 crore.
Chaoba also lamented that the budget ignores the Loktak Lake which is deteriorating rapidly.
Even the Loktak Downstream Project is not running smoothly.
On the ban of funds to NGOs in the state, Chaoba sad it is beyond logic.
H said that many educated youths are involved in the NGOs and blocking the funds would decimate them.
Chaoba also mentioned that NGOs are taking a pioneering role in combating the AIDS scourge.
Unemployment problem was also highlighted in great detail by the MP and said that this endemic problem is one of the factors for the rising insurgency in the state.
